Day 3
Forgot to post yesterday! I meant to, but the internet connection is pretty terrible, and I keep forgetting that I have this haha Yesterday was a beautiful day! I spent the day at the beach enjoying the sun and water (which was freezing, but nice since it was so hot). We also went food shopping at the "continente" which is kind of like their super walmart. I got a bunch of groceries so I can cook for myself instead of spending lots of money eating out! Today the other girls in my internship and I met up with a few people concerning our education internship. We will hold our classes in the "pavilião multiusos", in a big room which has one wall of all windows with the best view of the island!! I'm pretty nervous to start the internship considering three other girls and I are completely in charge of these classes. There was an article in the local newspaper today advertising and explaining the class- looks like there's a lot of pressure on us to do a really good job! After seeing the classroom though I'm less nervous and more excited :) Now for the rest of the day we'll probably do a bit more walking around, and possibly go explore one of the forts that were built to protect Terceira wayyy back in the day! Hope this great weather holds up!

Day 1
I MADE IT! Yesterday I wound up getting to Boston about 5 hours early for my flight (read the ticket wrong- oops), but I had a nice Thai dinner w/ Mom & Kyle and didn't have to rush. Today was my first day in Terceira. Surprisingly I've made it through the day without being too exhausted, considering I had an overnight flight and basically am going on no sleep! Of course on our taxi ride to the "residéncia" (where we are staying), I met our taxi driver whose brother lives in New Bedford- who's surprised? I've already made some really great friends and spent the day walking around and exploring the island a little. We got lunch at sandwich shop and I got a deliciousss chouriço sandwich :) I've also done a lot of practicing my portuguese today! I was worried I'd freak out and just speak English, but I've basically only spoken Portuguese when trying to talk to locals, and they actually understand me!! Let's hope I keep this up and come back a little more bilingual :) Now I'm going to spend the rest of the night relaxing, reading and having some Portuguese vinho, yayy! And more exploring tomorrow!
